Marilyn, I am needing the inspiration of a group art class to get back to painting. Now that my studio is in my home I don’t seem to carve out time to work in it.
Are you teaching? Do you know of any options for me besides enrolling at the U? Or is there a really good teacher teaching there now. I seem to be drawn to oils.
In case you don’t remember me, I teach ballroom dance, audited a drawing class with you years ago, and we danced at the Elks, once!
    Hope you are well.

    • Hello Sandy, I just yesterday found this message from you. My daughter Sara set up this website and she checks it but I haven’t done so. Please be in touch by email….mbruya@montana.com I check email frequently.
I havent taught any classes since january…a drawing class at the Art museum. However I’ll be doing a MOLLI class in October. You may be familiar with them, offered through Continuing Ed at UM. I’ll do a Color Mixing class the five Friday mornings of October….the class is held at Dickinson School, but registration is through MOLLI ( Montana Osher Lifelong Learning Institute). They only allow me one class per year and this one filled in one hour last year. You probably already know a lot about color, so it may not interest you. We work in acrylic for convenience sake, but the info is useful for oils, etc. i’ve had interior designers, jewelry designers, etc. in the class. If it is of any interest, I think you can call and get on the waiting list.
I haven’t been in touch with the Art Dept at all since retiring…I frequent the Music Dept instead….so no idea about the faculty there now
Sorry its been so long since you sent this message…I certainly remember you and think we have crossed paths recently, probably at concerts. Have a good summer!

  2. Courtney Christopher

Love your work. This is Courtney Christopher. I just wanted to drop a line again and tell you how much we have enjoyed your generous donation. The supplies have now become parts of dozens of work and I am proud to say. They works they have been included in…. I think you would be proud of. I have used them in my Senior Studio and IB Art courses to augment our supplies. It was so nice to see students light up when I said they could use some good oil paint, or pulled out a canvas. Thank you, again for you expertise, your continuous support, and your friendship.

    Courtney.

    • Glad I ran into you yesterday! Also a good thing to check this website for messages. I’ll forward the documents we discussed by email. Its very gratifying to know that those supplies were of use and were valued by your students. Let me know in the future when there are exhibits of your students work….I don’t follow local news as much as I should. There will be more supplies in the future. Meanwhile, enjoy these summer months!

  3. Richard and Susan Tennant

Hello from the Pacific N.W. I just wanted to touch bases about a painting you might have done in 1969. It has long been our favorite and is now our granddaughter is very possessive of it. It appears to be done in acrylic but might be an oil. It is approximately 27″ x 38″ and is a depiction of sunflowers in an oval vessel on a round table. It is signed M. Rosera on the right corner and on the back Marilyn Rosera in bold print with a number 2 just to the side of the printed name. I have searched for you for quite some time but today found your contact information, thanks to the internet. We’d purchased the painting at a Portland Goodwill store sometime in the early 70’s and have loved it all this time. So, thank you so much…if you are indeed the person who crafted this wonderful picture. Sincerely Richard and Susan Tennant; Portland Oregon. ufoten@yahoo.com

    • How nice to hear from you!!! Also nice to hear that my sunflower painting is so appreciated in my hometown!!! Currently I live in Missoula MT, where I taught Painting, Drawing, Color and Design for 25 years at the University of Montana, retiring in 2007. However, Portland is Home for me and I try to visit there at least once a year.

Interestingly, I’ve only heard about artworks from prior years from people who have found them at Goodwill or on online auctions, not from works sold over the years.
I’d love to see an image of the painting you have if you could email a copy. I rarely check this website…my daughter who designed it for me got a notice about your message. My email is mbruya@montana.com

I remember doing a sunflower painting in undergraduate school in Spokane in about 1961-1962 and it was oil on canvas that size. I believe I left it at my parents house in Portland when I went on to school and then moved to various jobs. In 1963-65 I went to Grad School at Mills College in Oakland and after 1963 my painting style became minimal and evolved into the “space’ imagery of the mid-late 1960’s and continuing into the 1980’s. My maiden name was Rosera until 1968, so any painting before then would have been signed with that name. Lots of questions about the path it might have taken to Goodwill!!!

Thanks so much for your kind note and I’d love to see the sunflower painting. As you can see in recent years i’ve gone back to flower imagery. Thanks again, Marilyn

      • Marilyn I have not been able to send the photograph of the 1960’s oil of your sunflower via the email address you sent to me.  I am therefore attaching a picture to this site and am hopeful that your daughter will forward it to you.
