About

Marilyn Bruya

Marilyn Bruya began her career as a visual artist in the Pacific Northwest. She received her MA at Mills College in 1965 and her MFA at Bard College in 1986. She joined the faculty of the Art department at the University of Montana in 1982, and retired as professor emeritus in 2007. Since then, she continues to teach in the Montana Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (MOLLI) at UM.

Bruya has exhibited throughout the United States and her work is included in the collections of Exxon, Alcoa, Pittsburgh National Bank, United Bank of Africa, Conde Nast Publications, Insurance Company of North America and numerous private collections.

Her recent work explores the physical world as representative of inner experiences, and references the transitory nature of life. She is an avid gardener and music lover. She has also traveled extensively in Indonesia, China and Eastern Europe, recently becoming involved in her family history in the Ukraine and in the musical traditions of Georgia.

Marilyn’s book “Color Mixing Strategies” is now available online at the University of Montana Bookstore.
